"Our Pacific Orcas adventure exceeded
the experience we had looked forward to. Both Krista and Erin are truly
talented both as leaders and outdoorspeople.
Krista was excellent at bringing a group of strangers from several nations
as a cohesive team in mere hours. I was constantly impressed by her knowledge
of seamanship, navigation, tides, and also her willingness to go the "extra
mile" to help us. Erin was a very effective second and her meals
on the trip were excellent."
Gerry & Candy Roney, San Jose, CA
"Thank you for a very relaxing and educational Yukon
River trip. This kind of trip could be intimidating, but your easy
going manner dispelled any fears. People like us, office workers, really
need this kind of vacation to help put everything back into perspective.
We got more than our money's worth in memories and experiences. What you
are doing , you sure do well."
Kathy & Peter Fischer, Ottawa, ON
"I just wanted you to know my son and I have the most terrific time on
the Johnstone Strait [Pacific Orcas] kayaking
trip. Kris and Janet, our guides, were fantastic. They both had such a
deep love of the country, respect for the whales, and genuine enthusiam,
it was a real treat to have them as our guides."
Tim Ward, Travel Writer, Washington Post, Washington,
DC
"I appreciate the dedication of both Beth and Kelly in how they facilitated
the experience for me and the whole group on the West
Coast Trail. Their decisions and judgement were excellent, ensuring
us of having a wonderful, very stress free and safe trip. Thank you for
your planning guide, selections, and for making my trip so memorable."
Alison Richardson, Portland, OR
"My son and I and a friend, Ken Hill, just competed the Chilkoot
Trail trip with Mark and Harris. I cannot say enough good things about
the experience. The leadership and guiding were excellent. We eight guests
got along famously. I have travelled a fair amount, but this was one of
the most memorable weeks in my life. Thank you. Sea to Sky will be highly
recomended by all of us."
Doug Barnett, Vancouver, BC
"Just wanted to thank you one thousand times over for finding and organizing
a trip to the best spot on earth! The Southern
Chilcotins captured my heart, and my soul. Everyday was a feast -
of beauty, and of course - Mark's cooking! The landscape of meadows, flowers,
aspen groves were so different for what we associate with B.C. The vistas
were magnificent - my first time in high mountain passes - just breathtaking."
Debbie Sommer, Brockville, ON
"I have to tell you that our experience in the Algonquin Park was one of the
best and more exiting I ever had. When I talk about my Canadian vacation our
canoe trip is my favourite subject. I keep a wonderfull memory of that week.
I just wanted to let you know that you made a great job!"
Marco and Margherita Bosco, Milan,Italy
"We have just returned from your Orcas
of the Pacific trip starting on the 4th July 04, and would like to
say we had a fantastic time, ignoring the weather, which was a triffle
damp. Janet who led the trip is an amazing woman, every question anybody
asked she knew everything about it. She was so layed back, never stressed,
or never showed it if she was. She made everybody feel good about themselves,
especially me (Mitzi), as I am not a sporty person. The food was very
good, well, as was everything, I cannot praise everything enough. Thank
Janet for making the trip so good, and also Erin, for keeping us fed.
It was brilliant thanks again."
Colin & Mitzi Griffith, UK
"I really want to let you know just how much I enjoyed my trip through
the Bowron circuit , I still can not stop
thinking or telling everyone how great it was. It truly was the best adventure
I have been on yet."
Ed Lapointe, Burnaby, BC
“The beauty and tranquility of Georgian Bay went a long way to ease the frustrations and tensions of living in an urban setting. I will always miss the Bay --it's truly an unique environment, and one I feel privileged to have been part of for a week. The knowledge, skills, and many competencies of your guide team made the trip all the more enjoyable. ”
Helen Durant, San Francisco, CA
"I think that Sea to Sky is the best run commercial company I’ve been
with and the food was outstanding.I REALLY enjoyed both the Yukon
River canoe trip and the Chilkoot Trail
and to a large extent it's due to you and your guides. I particularly
liked your relaxed and laid back style Len, the subtle way you kept an
eye on what everyone needed without being intrusive and the way you treated
all the clients equally. I believe that it’s a real art to be a good guide."
Doug Jamieson, Saudi Arabia
"What a great trip I had with Georgia and Carolyn through the South
Chilcotins this summer. You were right - what gorgeous country! The
wildflowers were magnificent, the scenery breathtaking - and very few
other folks in the area! For me personally - all the ingredients for a
perfect trip!!"
Linda Brown,Ontario
“My friends would like to join me to thank you for this wonderful and unforgettable canoe trip...... We have learned so much and appreciate the beauties of Algonquin Park. Your professionalism has been really a plus during the trip, by the way at every moment we didn't worry about problems that could happen because you were here at everytime to say what to do and what not to do. The food was delightful and the camp very comfortable. Thank you so much for being such a lovely partner during this awsome canoe trip.”
Christophe, Marie-Laure, Sebastien, & Mariane, Lieges,France
"Have recently returned from my sixth Sea
to Sky trip. This has to say something about your company!! Mark really
is a gem. He was so aware of how things were going for us, always one
step ahead and reassuring us where needed. Our meals, as usual, were very
tasty and nutritious. Thanks for the great organization within your company
which always makes for a smooth running trip."
Margaret Morgan,BC
"I had the most incredible experience. Not only was the Chilkoot
Trail absolutely fantastic, and the nature extreme, but the group
was also very enjoyable and the guides were the best I've ever had. Mark
and Harris made all the difference, and were an incredible source of information
and knowledge. Most of all, they made me feel safe and secure from the
minute we set foot on the trail."
Sonja Ronning,Denmark
"Thank you for a relaxing, educational, and entertaining , Yukon
River trip. Your continual "off-the-wall" humour added spice to the
trip. This kind of trip to an "Ontarian" could be intimidating, but your
easy going manner dispelled all fears. People like us office workers really
need this kind of vacation to help put everything back into perspective.
Keep doing what you are doing as you do it really well."
Kathy & Peter Fischer,Ontario
"Unequivocally our trip to Nootka Sound
was the best holiday we ever had. Great organization, guides, and food.
You can bet that we will be back soon."
Louise & Gerry Haldeson, New York
"Could you please pass on my greatest thanks to Beth and Maria for a great
Bowron Lakes canoeing trip. We were so
well looked after, it was a great experience and I loved every moment."
Jenny Keyote,England
"Just wanted to let you all know what an awesome time we all had on our
recent trip with you to Johnstone Strait.
The trip was very well organized. Georgia and Janet worked very well together
and we all felt safe and comfortable under their care. We saw some whales
on each day of our trip!! How the girls arranged that I'm not sure, but
it sure was exciting. One of the features that made things easier for
us was the pickup and drop-off at the hotel. Not having to rent a car
was nice, since it would sit for most of the week anyways, as well as
not having to worry about ferry schedules etc."
Robert Siles,Ontario
"We had a wonderful trip to Mt Assiniboine.
The area is breathtaking and the helicopter ride was awesome. Our guides
Cliff and Mike were lots of fun."
Sheila Hethington, BC
"It is with great pleasure that I write you regarding my recent hike of
the West Coast Trail with your company
Sea to Sky Expeditions. Until recently, I thought adventure vacations
were heavy slogs through rough terrain, with the occasional "wow" moment.
Not so with your team. Everyday, every moment was something special. The
professionalism, kindness, and good nature of Beth and Mark are what all
other guides can only hope to aspire to. Their method of guiding makes
a client feel like they are a part of a grand adventure rather than "just
along for the ride". Beth and Mark's historical anecdotes and poems provided
need insight to the fact that while we journeyed the trail for recreational
purposes, it was in fact created to save lives- a somber fact after hearing
the despairing and tragic tale of the fate of the Valencia. Donkey engines,
seals, sea lions, eagles, orcas, bears, cougar tracks, wolf tracks, hole
in the wall, abandoned settlements... There was so much to see that I'm
still writing down journal notes, three days after the trip! I can't say
enough about your company except that I am telling all of my hiking friends
about you!"
Sundiata Cowels - American Museum Natural History,
New York
" Our trip into the Chilcotins was
just unbelievable -the best and hardest ever! I wanted you to know how
tremendous Caroline and Mark were every step of the way. I have been on
guided trips before, but nothing to the degree of their professionalism,
intelligence, humour, care and knowledge. They were TOP NOTCH!"
Debbie Sommer, Ontario
"I'm back at Whitehorse after a really great trip to the Arctic Circle and Fort Selkirk! Mark and Beth were fantastic guides. I must admit a special
liking for Beth as she had so much history at her fingertips. The scenery was the most spectacular I've seen in some time."
Dean Gugler, Ontario
"The Chilkoot Trail was certainly the
trip of a lifetime for David and I. It was more than we ever dreamed of.
The scenery was spectacular! Would I do it again - Yes! What a great trip!
Mark and Harris, our guides were wonderful, the meals super. Thanks for
a great trip. We look forward to another experience with Sea and Sky."
Sue & David Engsberg, Missouri
"Just wanted to let you all know what an awesome time we all had on
our recent trip with you to Johnstone Strait.
The trip was very well organized. Georgia and Janet worked very well together
and we all felt safe and comfortable under their care. The food was good,
and plentiful. Len, by now you have probably heard that we saw some whales
on each day of our trip! How the girls arranged that I'm not sure, but
it sure was exciting. One of the features that made things easier for
us was the pickup and dropoff at the hotel. Not having to rent a car was
nice, since it would sit for most of the week anyways, as well as not
having to worry about ferry schedules etc."
Robert Smyth & Family, Ontario
"Hi Len, I just wanted to let you know that Carla and I had an exceptional
time and experience with Georgia and Monica on the Johnstone
Strait. We will talk about this trip as much as the West Coast trail.
I am not sure what adventure we'll do next, but you can be sure it will
be with Sea to Sky. Please give another thanks to Georgia on our behalf.
I can't thank her enough for the work she did. She was not only professional
and knowledgeable (like a mother duck in the water), but she was also
a pleasure to be with and a good friend. The same goes for Monica who
accompanied us on the trip. Not only was the food great that she prepared,
she too was a pleasure to be with. All eleven of us got along well, and
by the end of the week, we were all good friends. I would strongly recommend
this trip to anyone....Thanks again for the experience, which we will
both remember for a life time."
Robert Norum, Alberta
"Pat and I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to you and
to Debbie for providing us with a truly memorable "trip of a lifetime"
on the Chilkoot Trail. We had been planning
it for the past two years, and we could feel the excitement growing day
by day through June and July. When pat reached the top of the pass, she
broke into tears as this was the culmination of so much anticipation.
As for myself, I was feeling euphoric that we had actually accomplished
it, and still had good legs to get us to Happy Camp. Without doubt it
was the toughest physical thing I have ever done, and a lot of the credit
goes to you and Deb for setting an attainable pace, and keeping us well
nourished and watered. While on the topic of food, I have to say every
meal was delicious. We had all we could eat, and enjoyed every bite. Again,
many thanks for an awesome week."
Peter Noel, Ontario
"A long overdue thank-you for the trip last September to the Bowron
Lakes. The adventure was first class in every respect and exceeded
our expectations every day. When you said "they don't come any better
than Georgia," you were almost right. Debbie too is a wonderful person,
a warm leader and a delight to be with all day. She too gets a 10+."
Doug Seaborn, Ontario
"It has taken us a long time to thank you again for a wonderful
trip on the Bowron Lakes. It met all our
expectations. You have the perfect personality to bring a group together
and your humour kept us going through the cold and rainy weather. We would
travel with you anytime."
Marlene & Ed Gurgurewicz, Ontario
"Just wanted to thank you for the great job you did leading us
on the Bowron Lakes expedition. Being
in the customer service industry myself making me often more critical
of things than I care to be. I certainly appreciated the little extras
you did and your consistent concerns for our well being. Little touches
such as your mini library and loaning out extra of your personal clothing,
even those stretching routines each morning added a special touch to the
trip. You gave clear instructions on how group members should handle
themselves around canoes and on campsites."
Elisabeth van Eyken, Quebec
"The canoeing trip on the Yukon River
was definitely a highlight of my vacation in Canada and I feel lucky that
I could share the experience with such a wonderful group of people. Thanks
again for making the canoeing trip such a success!"
Pascale LeManquet, Belgium
"I want to thank you again for the great trip and those images of
the approaching Orcas remain planted firmly
in my head and heart. My colleagues and friends see my face light up each
time I try to explain the experience. I was back home just six days before
I pulled out the Sea to Sky brochure and started to think about what to
do for next year."
Elisabeth Black, Ontario
"Just wanted to let you know what a great trip we had to Johnstone
Strait! The guides were wonderful. Their different personalities really
complemented each other. We felt safe and in able hands the whole time.
The area was beautiful and we loved the adventure. You've got a great
company and we'd like to do another trip with you in the future."
Janet and Jonathan Thaler, New York
"I can't believe it has been over two months since our hike on the
West Coast Trail. Memories of this trip
will be indelibly etched in our minds for the rest of our lives. It was
definitely awesome to be on the beach for seven straight nights. It took
us several days to adjust to sleeping beds again. We owe y'all a tremendous
amount of appreciation for the nonstop effort involved in leading the
group. I still can't believe how well the food tasted."
Mark Adkin, Texas
"I want you to know that the West Coast
Trail trip was everything I had hoped for on a hiking trip and more,
the company, the friendliness made even the harder parts of the trail
easier."
K. Eyben, BC
"This letter is to say thanks for a superb trip to the West
Coast Trail. Not only was the trip itself well-organized, but you
and your staff are competent, caring guides with excellent knowledge of
the trail. Of course, I also enjoyed the fact that you don't take yourselves
too seriously and humour in generous doses kept all of us in a cheerful
frame of mind. I liked the way you were aware and sensitive to the capabilities
of everyone in the group - slowing the pace if required. There was also
plenty of time to enjoy the spectacular beauty of the coastline and forests,
time to explore tidepools, shower at Tsusiat Falls, or just relax around
the campfire. As a writer, I particularly appreciated your knowledge of
the trail's history and points of interest."
K. Johnston, BC
"I would like to put on paper my thanks to all concerned in making
this such a special time. Beth, our West Coast
Trail guide was just great. Her ability to make us all feed so secure
and hiking within ourselves, her knowledge of the ecology and her explanations
made for a very enjoyable hiking experience. How you mange to provide
such great food every day just astounds me. I never went hungry and always
looked forward to the end of the day when Beth and Christine prepared
the evening meal. Time after time they came up with the great deserts
and there was even cheesecake, how did you know it was my favourite!!
just great."
Mike Hodsall, BC
" I have recently completed a trip with your company to the Canadian
Rockies. It was a most memorable experience for me. The hiking opportunities
around Mt. Assiniboine are superb. Our weather was perfect, almost all
the time. But I think a more important reason for my personal enjoyment
was the concern and care given to each participant in a most respectful
way by the group leaders. I was particularly impressed by the leadership
skills that Beth showed. With her encouragement and guidance I was able
to experience fully the opportunities offered, which I think I could easily
have declined for fear of holding back the group, being too slow, too
afraid, etc. Our meals were excellent, as they have been on previous trips,
always tasty and piping hot."
Margaret Morgan,BC
"Have been intending to let you know how much I enjoyed the hike
on the Mystery Coast. It was one of the best
hikes I have done and we were so lucky with the weather, the tides and
the group. Georgia and Mark were such excellent guides -- you really have
got a great bunch of staff. I can understand why you want to keep this area unspoiled and safe from too much attention."
Margaret Morgan, Vancouver, BC
"On a recent trip, I had the pleasure of meeting three of your guides
and I wanted to let you know how impressed I was with their skills, professionalism
and friendliness. During the week 23-30, 1998, my dad and I hiked the
Chilkoot Trail. Also on the trail that
week was a Sea to Sky group, being guided by Tiffany, Michael and Don.
These three people had a profound impact on our trip. During our descent
from Happy Camp I strained my ankle and could barely limp into Deep Lake
Camp. Your team came to my rescue - taping my ankle, compression wrapping
it and applying cool compresses. To help ease the pain, they even picked
fresh blueberries for me to enjoy! After a short rest, I was able to finish
the day's hike to Lindemann Camp. Their help made all the difference.
What touched me the most, however was the warmth and genuine concern they
showed toward me and my father. In fact, the entire group, guides and
campers alike, seemed to embrace us as an extension of their camp-family.
And, their friendship and easy camaraderie made our trip that much more
special. After seeing your team in action, I would strongly encourage
anyone planning a trip such as this to book it with your organization.
I know I'll plan my future excursions with Sea to Sky whenever possible!"
Lisa Bauer, Buffalo Grove, IL
"The two trips I did with Sea to Sky [Chilkoot
Trail and Yukon River] were both absolutely excellent in every way,
and I am grateful to you and your leaders for all you did to make them
such a positive experience. I especially appreciated it as, being older
and not having backpacked for many years, I was wondering whether I had
challenged myself a little too far this time. It feels great to have done
both and arrived back safe and healthy. Your leaders were all superb -
very hard working, encouraging, knowledgeable about the trails and their
history, expert at coping in the bush, patient with equipment problems
and tired hikers, flexible when possible, wonderful cooks and just generally
fine people. I will never forget the reading of Robert Service on our
last morning by Bennett Lake (it surpassed the 'official' readers in Dawson),
and Debbie's support on that long day which included the Golden Stairs;
Mark's understanding help for two of us who took time to gain confidence
on the long ladders, and his dedication in walking that evening to Carmanah
to fetch the Belgian Waffles, Georgia's energy and cheerfulness which
didn't prevent her from appreciating other people's tiredness with kindness.
I can't think of anyway they could have done more. The itineraries were
generally well though out, the descriptive notes very complete, the equipment
lists & other notes very helpful. For the most part, the campsites
were memorable, and the West Coast tents were particularly well designed.
The Carmanah food drop-off is well thought out. The office was always
quick to answer and make suggestions."
Jane Vincent-Havelka, London, Ontario
"The Chilkoot Trail was the best
holiday we've had in years. I really can't say enough about the whole
experience - the guides, the camaraderie, the wilderness - it was quite
special."
Justine Cooke, Vancouver, BC
