I. So, you want to be a guide? Answer Yes or No to the following statements

  1. Guiding is a passion for me rather than a job.
  2. I am prepared to work my way into more responsibility and remuneration.
  3. The safety of the people I lead, or co-lead, is my first concern.
  4. I can work collegially with my fellow guides.
  5. I am positive and upbeat regardless of conditions.
  6. I am a problem solver.
  7. I can act decisively and firmly when it is called for.
  8. I am empathetic and can display such, when necessary.
  9. I understand that guests have different goals, abilities, and personalities, and that I must adjust to these.
  10. I understand that I am on duty 24 hours a day during a trip.
  11. I believe the best way to support the cause of preservation and conservation is by example and encouragement.
If you have answered YES to all the above, then please read on.

II. Specific Requirements: Assistant Guides



HIKING CANOEING SEA KAYAKING
1. Must be at least 19 years of age.

2. Must have current certification in a 40 hour Wilderness First Aid Course or equivalent.

3. Maintain current CPR certification (level C).

4. Have completed a course of instruction/certification or accumulated equivalent field/camping experience over a number of hikes.

5. Maintained a log of completed trips.

6. Have a current Class IV driver’s license or working towards one.
1. Must be at least 19 years of age.

2. Must have current certification in a 40 hour Wilderness First Aid Course or equivalent.

3. Maintain current CPR certification (level C).

4. As a minimum, completed successfully a flat water, instructor level course, from a recognized organization.

5. Maintained a log of completed trips.

6. Have a current Class IV driver’s license or working towards one.
1. Must be at least 19 years of age.

2. Must have current certification in a 40 hour Wilderness First Aid Course or equivalent.

3. Maintain current CPR certification (level C).

4. As a minimum, completed successfully an assistant guide course, from a recognized organization and logged a significant number of sea kayaking/camping days.

5. Maintained a log of completed trips.

6. Have a current Class IV driver’s license or working towards one.

7. Possess a Restricted Marine Operators© License for VHF radio


III. Specific Requirements: Lead Guides


Every application is considered on merit, but previous experience as an assistant or lead guide, or some equivalent, is weighted.

HIKING CANOEING SEA KAYAKING
1. Must be at least 21 years of age.

2. Must have current certification in an 80 hour “Advanced for Leaders” Wilderness First Aid (WFA) Course or equivalent or Occupational First Aid (OFA) Level III.

3. Maintain current CPR certification (level C).

4. Have completed a course of instruction/certification or accumulated equivalent field/camping experience over a number of hikes.

5. Maintained a log of completed trips.

6. Have a current Class IV driver’s license or working towards one.
1. Must be at least 21 years of age.

4. As a minimum, completed successfully a flat and moving water, swift water rescue, instructor level course, from a recognized organization.

1. Must be at least 21 years of age.

2. Must have current certification in an 80 hour “Advanced for Leaders” Wilderness First Aid (WFA) Course or equivalent or Occupational First Aid (OFA) Level III.

3. Maintain current CPR certification (level C).

4. As a minimum, completed successfully an assistant guide course, from a recognized organization and logged at least 80 full sea kayaking days with overnight camping, as an assistant guide.

5. Maintained a log of completed trips.

6. Have a current Class IV driver’s license or working towards one.

7. Possess a Restricted Marine Operators©ˆ License for VHF radio.

Include what flexibility you may have for “filling in” for one or more trips. Feel free to contact us about the status of your application. We have a number of guides that return each year, and we may not be able to determine our full needs until late spring.
